LOCAL FARMERS GO HI-TECH
Shoppers Have Online Access to Locally Produced Food Year Round
Northwest Farm Fresh, an innovative online farmers market that connects local farmers with consumers year round, is adding a new pick-up location to the Spokane area beginning September 18th, 2013. Customers can shop directly from farmers and food producers online and pick up their order at the location of their choice, either in Colville, Chewelah or Spokane.
According to the USDA, the demand for locally produced food is growing. Local food and direct marketing opportunities, including farmers markets, are one of the fastest-growing segments of agriculture. The latest Census of Agriculture reported that direct sales of food products from farmers to individual consumers rose by nearly 50 percent between 2002 and 2007. Northwest Farm Fresh provides an online venue for customers to purchase fresh, healthy food directly from the producer.
Started by Shelly Stevens of Chewelah, WA in 2011, Northwest Farm Fresh was originally called the Chewelah Valley Fresh Market. Stevens recently changed the name to Northwest Farm Fresh to better reflect the region the online market now serves. Stevens is a founding member of the multi-award winning Chewelah Farmers Market and saw a need for a direct marketing avenue in addition to the traditional farmers market for local farmers and food producers. The online version provides an option for customers who are unable to visit a traditional farmers market. “Wonderful!” says a recent customer “My work schedule has changed to the point I am missing most of the farmers market days - thanks for pulling this together”.
Customers can shop online at www.nwfarmfresh.com Wednesdays at 9:00 am through Monday at noon and pick up their order on Tuesdays between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm at either Heather’s Fairy Tale Bakery in Colville; the American Legion Post 54 in Chewelah; or, beginning September 18, at Lasag
