Change in Start Time: We’ll Begin at 1:00PM LEARN HOW TO BUTCHER A CHICKEN

Demonstration and Hands On Practice in Butchering a Chicken.

Event date: 2/22/2015 Export event

Join us February 22nd (4th Sunday meeting) at 1:00PM for a hands on workshop.  Cara Hagar will demo how to butcher a chicken.  Anyone who wants to (and brings a chicken to butcher) will have a chance for hands on participation. The workshop will be held at the home of Pat and Andrea Johns. If you bring birds to butcher please withhold food for 24 hrs prior to butchering. It's important for the crop to empty prior to butchering. Do not withhold water.

That would be great, Torie. I never saw a chicken with that issue. It will be good to see the contrast.

I've got a 2 1/2 year old hen that I question whether she ever laid. In all this time I've never once seen her on a nest, but there is very rarely a very small "pullet" size egg - but no pullet around to lay it. Anyway, I'll bring her.

ANYONE WHO'S BRINGING A CHICKEN - please withhold food (water is okay) for 24 hours before the class.

I deleted my comment about the water belly chicken since I don't think we have one anymore with that condition. We plan to come and bring something to share.

Lisa and I will be there. We will bring a 2 year old Australorp Hen. She is in fine laying form, but lacks the necessary good nature to be a member of our flock.
