"Permaculture Principles & Pathways..." by Holmgren

The long winded holy grail of permaculture originators...

Author: Siemen Family Farms, Inc.
My subtitle was intended to be funny not insulting. :-) I am, however, working my way through the book and have some thoughts I wanted to start sharing.

Perennial Vegetables: From Artichoke to Zuiki Taro

A Gardeners Guide to Over 100 Delicious and Easy to Grow Vegetables - By Eric Toensmeier

Author: Siemen Family Farms, Inc.
Just like the title says. Even though a lot of the plants are not hardy in our area they are still good to know and some can even be adapted to overwinter in the house and still produce if you've got a sunny window. There are a ton of plant profiles, many practically unheard of in Spokane, which I enjoyed reading about. It is nearly the perfect book for turning to when you're doing your planning for the planting season and know you don't want the typical fare.

"Food Not Lawns"

H.C. Flores

Author: Siemen Family Farms, Inc.
This book, while not purely permaculturist, is a great reference for anyone needing to use some rogue techniques and ideas to build their food growing capacity.  We've enjoyed the candor and the stories a little too close to home from the authors perspective.  She has, however, done food forest work, permaculture work, and adopted other ideas and experience along the way that is invaluable to anyone wanting to change a boring, energy sucking lawn into a food producing paradise.
